Mission
What the future holds...
Back in 2022, every time I happened to meet a stranger and heard the slightest accent, my second or third question would always be something like: "What is your favorite food from back home that you cannot find here?" or "If you had just landed in your birthplace, where is the first place you would go?"
Yes, I am a nerd. But in everyday New York City, my questions were nothing out of the ordinary.
No matter who it was or where we were, everyone would warm up. Their guard would come down, and a nostalgic smile would take over their face. They would tell me a beautiful memory they had forgotten about. Most of them gave me a hug, then went on their way, thinking about my question for days.
I wanted to write about these things, the ideas living in my head and in my heart. I felt it could not be just me, so I went looking for it in others. I started writing one personal email a week to anyone in my contacts who was, simply, a foreigner. Eventually, it became what it is now.
But I am not done.
No Visa Society will soon be available worldwide, and with that, every letter will also be available to arrive printed and translated in more than twelve languages. Eventually, I want everyone to be able to write back to us. I want to receive letters from all over the world. I want myself and my team to sit with every one of your stories and memories.
Because, friend, no matter where you came from or where you are now, how many languages you speak, how many passports and citizenships you hold, or how much better a life you have built for yourself, the dirt of your homeland will keep your soul longing and yearning until your last breath.
Your name will never be pronounced right. You will always have an accent. You will always be the foreigner here, while back home, the one who left.
Well, you are not alone.
Welcome to the club, friend.
Sincerely,Red
No Visa Society
